To increase their market dominance, our client, an industry-leading brand of cosmetics and personal care products, needed a creative new design for Playboy deodorant. ExactoCraft’s team of experts jumped at the chance to help our client’s branding department design a unique Spray-through Aerosol Actuator, with a refreshing look and feel!
During the initial stages of this project, as a one-stop-shop plastic injection moulding company, we offered product development services, custom tooling, assembly and more.
This unique actuator consists of four parts, meticulously manufactured and assembled at the ExactoCraft premises in Cape Town. A twist of the cap locks and unlocks the spraying mechanism, enabling easier transportation and a longer-lasting product.
Design and development:
Extensive market, product and material research during the initial stages of this project allowed us to present the best possible design options to our client that would be most suited to their need. This service included technical product design and development
Custom tooling:
Our professional team of tool makers created precise custom moulds for the customer with top efficiency and practicality in mind.
The product is made from Polypropylene and HDPE, and is cast using a hot-running injection moulding process. This allows for zero waste and precision. These materials offer cost savings, chemical resistance, a smooth aesthetic, and open up the possibility of recycling unused parts.
Manufacturing and assembly:
ExactoCraft currently manufactures millions of Playboy Premium actuators annually, all fully assembled on the ExactoCraft premises before being shipped off to our client.
Our spray-through actuator solution comes in at a fraction of the price of other competitors with similar products.
Results that speak volumes:
Playboy later went on to win the Global Edition Nielsen Design Impact Award for most successful package redesign. The ability to boast about Playboy Deodorant’s “Power of Attraction” was once again enhanced thanks to the solution developed by ExactoCraft.
